What's New in MEDUSA4 Version 2.2? |

True to earlier announcements, version 2.2 introduces the revamped P&ID module, now as a Fourth Generation product, along with productivity enhancements in MEDUSA4 2D and the MPDS4 user interface. In addition to some great extensions to our ground-breaking SMART Edit tool, customers will be especially pleased to see that we now offer a raster product with full colour support - an even better way to integrate legacy drawings and other images into MEDUSA4 designs.
New in MEDUSA4 2D
P&ID Module now ported to MEDUSA4 technology
The new P&ID module, and the PIDCAT catalog, are now available for MEDUSA4 2D users without requiring an MPDS license. Product improvements include the ability to create P&ID symbols without generating prims, adding text and changing line styles as desired. Symbol attributes are now stored directly on symbols.
New MEDRaster Colour™ module for full colour raster support
The new MEDRaster Colour module allows customers to incorporate full colour images and scanned drawings into their designs. Around 90 major image formats are now supported. Existing customers with the bitonal MEDRaster product can upgrade for a small fee. Both products now support up to 5 separate rasters in a design, with the option of saving them to file (associated with the sheet) or directly in the sheet. Raster selection has also been further improved.
SMART Edit now with non-orthogonal geometry support
This release features major advances in the area of non-orthogonal geometry in SMART Edit, MEDUSA4’s popular click-and-drag editing tool for “parametrics on demand”. SMART Edit now works not only on angular dimensions, but also on linear dimensions at an angle; i.e. on dimensions not in the X and Y axis. When the angle of the geometry is changed, non-orthogonal dimensions change appropriately.
New sheet and symbol preview functionality
MEDUSA4 can now automatically create thumbnails of a sheet or symbol on save, storing them directly within the sheet; or users can create their own thumbnails. This greatly speeds up the preview process for larger sheets and symbol libraries.
New User Attribute Manager
A new User Attribute Manager makes it easy to define and store additional element attributes, such as supplier, weight, or surface material. Attributes can be copied across elements, and are stored with elements in the sheet, making it easy to create symbols for use across the entire company.
Personalised layer management
Administrators can now allow users to define, store and retrieve personal layer definitions in addition to company defaults. User-defined layer sets (for particular customer projects, for example) can be saved into xml files and made available to other users, or to override defaults where appropriate.
Support for AutoCAD® 2007
MEDUSA4 version 2.2 now offers full support for the AutoCAD DWG format up to AutoCAD 2007 (HP-UX up to AutoCAD 2006).
New installation tool on all platforms
Drastically cuts the time required to install the latest release of MEDUSA4.

MPDS4 GUI Enhancements: Focus on Usability and Intuitive Design
New MPDS4 dashboard
The new dashboard in MPDS4 will be very familiar to MEDUSA4 2D users. It provides context-sensitive properties information on selected elements, with quick editing options. The Steel Members dashboard allows users to set a fixed point for members and member rotation, while the Steel Plate dashboard lets designers create and edit holes in plates, as well as set a fixed point.
New MPDS4 selection mechanism
A single, efficient selection tool in MPDS4 now allows users to select components based on selection filters made via the dashboard, or by probing in the sheet. The Classic concept of data iterators is now fully integrated within Selection
Improved MPDS4 component rendering
MPDS4 instances can now have multi-coloured surfaces, and customers can choose colour numbers for drawing routines to generate subsequent solid models in the specified colour. Equipment models can also be defined with multiple colour objects, using the Med3D Surf command.
New MPDS4 catalog utility
Easily edit local and master catalogue and specification data from a familiar tree structure and table environment, with filter and database scanning functions.
